A Girl Goes to Immigration

Well, if I think the shit show of the medical and poor Moon Yeoung was bad, Busan Immigration more than made up for that.  I applied for my ARC (alien registration card), and the process as easy. Oh what’s the ARC? Well, it’s my official ID to let everyone know that I am legal. You see my entry visa is only good for 30 days and after 30 days, if I don’t get the ARC or leave the country, then I am an illegal person in the country. Trust me, you DON’T want to be caught breaking the law in Korea. That “I am an American”, crap really don’t fly here. Anyway applying for my ARC was easy. Well easy for me since I had major help.

First off, you have to go to the Busan Immigration Office or just an Immigration Office in your district.  My Moon Yeoung, my Korean boyfriend/handler, made an appointment in advance for me, so I did not have to wait. Yes, I am special like that! If for some reason you fail to make an appointment, be prepared to wait. When I say wait, I mean wait. These fuckers have longer wait times than the DMV.  These are things I needed to take with me:

1.    Passport. DUH….. even my dumb ass knew that!

2.    2 Passport photos (of course, how else would they know who I am. Or if you’re really lazy, then there are photo booths there. Be prepared for the markup

3.    30000 won + 4000 for delivery to my apartment. Korean Efficiency is what I love about Korean efficiency.  They have a bank, inside the immigration department. Not an ATM, but an actual bank. You walk up to pay the fee, and they give you a receipt.  You then take this receipt with your other paperwork for your ARC.  Pretty clever, eh?

4.    Completed application form. The form can be found in the office, but then again, I am special, and there was no need for me to fill out some application. My Korean (Moon Yeoung), came to the office picked up the application, filled it out for me and just had me sign it.  Who’s a special good girl? Me, that’s who!

If you are not as blessed as me, then you’ll need some help.  The forms are both in Korean and English, but just to be safe, have your co-teacher help you out. Trust, if he hadn’t filled out the form, I can guarantee that shit would have been rejected!  I love having handlers!

Once you submit everything, you should have your ARC in 7-10 business days!
